The Pause Before Possibility

December has a different kind of quiet. Not silence, exactly — but a softening. A slowing. A space between what has been and what will be. And lately, I’ve been feeling a pull to honor that space in a more intentional way.

This year, I’ve been thinking about creating a private retreat just for myself. No travel, no schedule, no expectations. Just a full day to:

  • Celebrate what 2025 held

  • Grieve and process the losses

  • Acknowledge the challenges I moved through

  • Reflect, journal, and think deeply

  • Plan what I want to cultivate in the year ahead

  • And most importantly… simply be present with myself

It’s something I encourage others to do in their own ways, but I realized I needed it too. Talking the talk and walking the walk matters — and the tools I offer others are the same ones I use because they genuinely help. Some more than others, sure, but I’ve learned that staying open is its own form of wisdom.

This year, I’ve been thinking about creating a private retreat just for myself. No travel, no schedule, no expectations.

One of the tools I tried this year is something new for me: a mind movie. I picked up the idea from a podcast interview I listened to recently, and I decided to create my own version in Canva — a blend of images, affirmations, and music — focused on my business vision. It’s been surprisingly powerful. There’s something about pairing intention with imagery and sound that stirs possibility in new ways.

Now I’m dreaming about creating mind movies for each of the Six Ways of Wellbeing I share in my workshops. If I teach it, I want to live it. If I encourage others to explore new tools, I want to explore them too.

And so this December, instead of rushing toward the finish line of the year, I’m choosing a different path:  A pause. A breath. A moment to honor the space before possibility.

Because growth doesn’t always come from pushing forward. Sometimes it comes from stopping long enough to listen to what your life has been trying to tell you.

Reflection: Where in your life do you need a pause — not to fix anything, but simply to feel, honor, and listen?

Action: Choose a date to create your own mini retreat — even if it’s just an hour or two.  Schedule it in your calendar and commit to giving yourself the same presence, compassion, and intentionality you offer others.

Tool: Mind Movie - Create a short “mind movie” using images, affirmations, and music that represent what you want to cultivate in 2026. It doesn’t have to be perfect — it simply needs to reflect what matters most to you. Watch it daily for a month and notice what begins to shift inside you when your vision is brought to life through imagery, positive affirmations, and the emotion that music helps you feel.
